Bawumia Converts NDC Chairman Updated: 13 -Oct- 2014

Two- Time running mate of the presidential candidate of the opposition new Patriotic Party
( NPP), Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, continues to rope in bigwigs of opposing political parties into the NPP family in the Northern region .
His latest catch to boost the chances of the party in his home region is a former Constituency Chairman of the National
Democratic Congress (NDC ) in the Bunkpurugu District, who until over the weekend remained the pivot for many NDC activists in the area . The longest serving Constituency Chairman of the NDC , who held the office for almost two
decades in the Bunkpurugu Constituency , Osman Konlan , over the weekend , at a brief
ceremony at Bunkpurugu Zongo parted ways with the party to join the New Patriotic Party( NPP). He described the NDC as a deceitful party that has over the years reneged on its numerous
promises to the chiefs and people of the area , indicating that he could no longer superintend
the affairs of the party for it to continue to deceive the people .
According to him, the NDC , prior to the 2008 general elections, promised it was going to fix
all roads in the area but years after assuming office, no single road in the area has seen a facelift. Mr Konlan expressed worry at the
spate at which lives were being lost, especially during the rainy season , because of the deplorable nature of the only major road that links the constituency to the regional capital , describing it as unacceptable . He stated that in 2012 a litany of promises were also made to the people of the area but
to date, no concrete steps had been taken by the government of the day or its assignees to address the teething problems of the people in the area . What was more worrying , he stated , was the
failure of President John Dramani
Mahama to appoint at least an indigene as a deputy minister in his government despite the overwhelming support the NDC party has enjoyed in the area since 1992 . He wondered what wrong the people in the Bunkpurugu Constituency had done to the
President such that the area was still lagging behind other districts in developmental projects . He indicated that he could not stand
another year of embarrassment.
The NDC chairman said judging from what had transpired in the two previous elections, he was optimistic the NDC would have no
concrete campaign message ( s) for residents in the area , but would rather go round making another batch of wild promises. The
chairman noted that it was to save himself from this embarrassment and its consequences that he had, after careful consideration, decided to bow out with his followers, numbering 278, to join the NPP .
“ I am an adult clocking my 61 st year and cannot go round lying to my own people . Enough of the lies ,” he said. He stated that under the NPP, several developmental projects sprang up in the area
which at the time was one of the infant districts in the country , wondering why the current government failed to continue the
successes chalked by the NPP.
Mr Konlan publicly renounced the NDC , and hinted that more NDC supporters will follow suit to join the NPP which has proven, over
the years, that it has the antidote to the problems of the country.
The vice presidential candidate of the NPP in the 2012 elections, Dr Mahamadu Bawumia, who received Mr Konlan into the party, said he was overjoyed by the bold decision taken by the former NDC chairman to renounce his love
for the NDC. He indicated that his readiness to join the NPP in prosecuting the agenda of national
development is commendable.
The Member of Parliament (MP ) for the area, Solomon Boah , thanked the executives of the
party and the new entrants and assured them the NPP will emerge more united and victorious after the October 18 polls to elect a
flagbearer .

Adwoa Safo Delights Constituents With Mechanised Boreholes Updated: 07 -Oct- 2014

The Member of Parliament for Dome-Kwabenya , Sarah Adwoa Safo , has handed over five fully operationalised mechanised
boreholes to some identifiable groups and institutions within her constituency to end their difficulties in searching for potable water for domestic use . Among the groups and institutions are the Old
Ashongman D / A Primary School , Yam Market, Taifa Community Clinic , Agbogba Anglican Basic School and Dome Mosque .
Neighborhoods within which these groups and institutions are located are areas where cleanliness is an issue . Communities in the Dome- Kwabenya constituency have over the years faced lots of challenges in getting portable water for
domestic use as pipe- borne water runningthrough the area are unable to supply the needed quantity to the residents, living
majority of the population to wander about in search of the commodity . Residents not connected to the community
water system had to walk an hour distance to the nearest neighborhood where the commodity is available to buy . A bucket of water in such communities sells between Gp 70
and Gp80 . The situation even becomes worse during the dry season where a bucket of water is sold for GH ₵ 1 .00. The law maker in an interaction with journalists said her motivation in dolling out
the mechanised boreholes was to ensure cleanliness in her constituency, especially, where water was very scarce ..“ This is to ensure that my people, especially ,
the children are clean, they have good drinking water and are saved from this Ebola and Cholera epidemic . Children are my priority
– their education , their health and their livelihood . I believe the facilities are going to help the schools and entire community
because they wouldn’ t have to buy water anymore” , said Ms . Safo in a cheerful mood . She said five other neighbourhoods and
institutions were also in the pipeline to benefit from the mechanised borehole initiative. Each of the facility which comes with a polytank reservoir, the MP noted, cost GH₵ 25 ,000. 00.
Commenting on the initiative, a Headteacher of the Old Ashongman D /A Primary School ,
Vinolia Bediako Madogo, said the facility had come at the right time to save the school from the difficulties they go through when the commodity was in short supply . She said the school had over the years been dependent on irregular water supply from the Municipal Assembly at an average cost of GH
₵ 40. 00 per month to serve over 900 pupils. However, she argued that the gesture from the MP for the area would help save them some money and also improve on the sanitation situation in the area .
“ This is a blessing, ” noted Madam Madogo . A class four pupil of the Old Ashongman D / A Primary School , Hannah Abedu Fosu expressed her profound gratitude to Ms. Safo for her.kind gesture noting “the borehole will give us
potable water to drink and help us not to get cholera and Ebola. ”
Headteacher of the Agbogba Anglican Basic School , Mrs. Joana Adwoa Brukum, also commenting on the initiative lauded the MP
for bringing life to the school .
“ Water is life and he who brings water brings life . This borehole donated will go a long way to relieve us of the difficulties we encounter in getting water on daily basis . It will also improve on our sanitation issues in the school ,
especially , with the outbreak of cholera. We promise to take good care of the facility and use it for the purpose that it has been given” , she noted. Leaders of the Dome Market, Taifa Community
Clinic and the Yam Market all welcomed the gesture done them by the MP and promised to take good care of the facility .

Black Stars movie to star Ghanaian actor 12.10.2014

The Hollywood movie of the Blacks Stars' catastrophic World Cup will star a Ghanaian actor, not The Rock
One Ghanaian actor may be set for
Hollywood's limelight very soon, according to Darryl Wharton-Rigby, the writer of 'The Ghana Soccer Heist Movie'. Initially, it was thought that The Rock would be the movie's main character, when
Wharton-Rigby himself was quoted as having mentioned the famous actor and wrestler. Ghana's Black Stars made the news in Brazil when they had $3million in appearance fees airlifted to them before taking to the field against Portugal, amidst threats of boycotting the game altogether. Now the writer of the proposed Hollywood movie has told the BBC that he is looking to have the main character in the movie acted out by a Ghanaian. "I saw a story online about the money being
delivered to the Black Stars and posted it on my Facebook page", Wharton-Rigby said. "A friend of mine who is a director as well as
a producer and said let's do it. Let's do the Ghana Soccer Heist movie" What we wanted to do is focus on the guy who is has to deliver the money and what
happens to him when he's trying to deliver the money.....and what happens if he doesn't get it there in time." "It is probably going to be a bit more fictitious; because we don't want to get into trouble with FIFA, but the backdrop of the
story is fascinating." Concerning reports that The Rock would have
a leading role in the movie, he denied the claim. "Well, not The Rock. I actually want the hero
of the story to be a guy from Ghana. The hero should be a guy from the community who is entrusted with getting the money to the team." "The question is how does he get there? Who tries to stop him, and why do they try to stop him?" "Hopefully we can write a great script and get somebody who is attached to it. It is a great
story and I think audiences internationally will take to it."
Wharton-Rigby already has an image of the movie poster engraved in his mind. "Lots of money, soccer balls, a stadium and a guy on the run", he said.

Tell Ghanaians The Truth About Our Debts – Economist Date: 11 -Oct- 2014

An Economist , John Gatsi , has advised government to immediately respond to the
contradictory debt to GDP figures put out by the International Monetary Fund (IMF) on Ghana .
According to him, failure to do so will pave the way for more conjecture “and that will actually
muddy the waters .” The IMF’s Deputy Director of Fiscal Affairs
Department of the IMF, Sanjeev Gupta on Tuesday disclosed that Ghana’s debt to GDP was 71% contrary to the 55% put out by the
government . A Member of Parliament’ s Finance Committee ,
Kwaku Kwarteng , told Citi News, the revelation indicates that the government is hiding the true state of the economy, adding that ,
government may have lied to the IMF in order to reduce the conditionalities which will accompany the IMF bailout. Ghana is scheduled to begin an IMF bailout programme in January 2015 to solve the challenges facing the economy. Industry players warned government to present
the true state of the economy to the IMF after a former Deputy Governor of the central bank
challenged the inflation and exchange rate figures put out by the central bank and the Ghana Statistical Service (GSS) . But this revelation suggest that Dr Mahamudu Bawumia’ s claims and the fears expressed by industry players may have been true.
Nonetheless , Mr . Gasti wants the central bank and the Finance Ministry to either confirm or deny the IMF’s figures . He said it is imperative they respond immediately because the credibility of the nation is at stake and so is the sovereign management of the economy. The Economist stressed that citizens have the right to know the truth because “ people are apprehensive about that and it is incumbent on them to come out .”
“ When they speak out , then we will be able to carry the analysis forward but I don’ t think we should trivialize the response of the Ministry of Finance and the Bank of Ghana . It is crucial so that we know the direction we are going," he added.
